Sebastopol, Texas born and raised country music artist Cody Johnson has risen to prominence balancing his defined musical ambitions and a passion for representing the Western lifestyle. Growing up in a small town solidified the two halves of his personality early in life. Johnson was exposed to the sounds of classic country icons as they were frequently played at his local establishments. As he listened, he began creating the sound that resonated with him. The result was a mixture of rowdy rock and more traditional country. His rural hometown was the perfect setting for Johnson to spend time outdoors as he hunted, fished, and participated in Western sports. Johnson was a competitive bull rider and then transitioned into active team roper. While some may find these two pieces incompatible, for Johnson it is a natural pairing. As a self-proclaimed adrenaline junkie, he is always looking for the next exhilarating challenge. Whether it is trying to top himself on the charts or album sales, taking his high-energy stage show to the next level, or chasing after a roping event buckle, he always sees room for improvement. More importantly, he seems himself as a proud representative of Texas. He wants his music and his social interactions to be a positive portrayal of the state. Johnson describes his persona to the Grand Ole Opry’s website as, “I’m a God-fearin’, hard-workin’, beer-drinkin’, fightin’, lovin’ cowboy from Texas.” The next moves in the busy Texan’s career are the release of his music video for his current single “Dirt Cheap” and the establishment of the inaugural Cody Johnson ChampionshipEvent. “Dirt Cheap”’s music video is available for viewing on all major platforms. The Cody Johnson Championship Event is set for October 15th to 19th at Cadence Bank Center Arena in Belton, Texas.
